Not to worry! You’re probably seeing this because certain foods are only partially digestible or travel so quickly through the intestines that they don’t have time to completely break down. It also happens when your baby eats a lot of one type of food or doesn’t chew a mouthful completely before he swallows.
If you give your baby an iron supplement, his poop may turn dark green or almost black. This doesn’t happen often, but it’s a completely normal variation that would make Popeye proud.

In babies, diarrhea is very runny and appears to be made up of water more than solids. It can be yellow, green, or brown and can seep or “explode” out of the diaper.

Most new parents find baby poop quite surprising! It has so many shades and consistencies that even experienced parents may not have seen them all.
Sometimes the blood in a baby’s poop is bright red, and sometimes it’s black (which means it’s been digested).
Another old wives tale is that if a woman eats a lot of strawberries while pregnant her child will be born with a strawberry mark on its body. Other myths have it that newborns are carried into this world by storks. A strawberry birthmark thus occurs on the place where the stork lifts and carries the baby.
There are a number of strawberry birthmark myths that have always been in circulation especially about the origin of strawberry birthmarks. One of these myths is that when a pregnant woman touches her body while standing in a strawberry farm, she will give birth to a baby with a strawberry mark on its body.

Formula-fed babies have pasty, peanut butter-like poop on the brown color spectrum: tan-brown, yellow-brown, or green-brown. It’s more pungent than poop from breastfed babies and a little less pungent than poop from babies who are eating solid food, but you’ll recognize the smell.
They are caused by a collection of dilated blood capillaries under the skin, which then cluster together. The accumulation of irregular blood vessels on the skin is what results in the formation of a red lesion. Current day studies show that they could be inherited or they could occur by chance too.

When black blood appears in a baby’s diaper – usually in little flecks that look like black poppy or sesame seeds – it’s often because the baby is breastfed and swallowing blood from Mom’s cracked and bleeding nipples. While this is a sign that you need some pain relief, it doesn’t pose a threat to your baby. Still, you should call the doctor to make sure it’s not something more serious, like bleeding from your baby’s intestines.
It is important for the parent to have a talk with the child and make him understand why he has such a mark on his or her face and make them understand that it is harmless and will eventually be gone. If the mark still bothers the kid, the mother can come up with ways of covering it up. If this is impossible, one can settle for birthmark removal procedures. Treatment options include surgical removal procedures, medications that reduce inflammations or laser treatments that remove them using laser technology.
Strawberry birthmarks are believed to have meaning depending on their location on the body. If they emerge near the mouth, the person will have a lot of wealth and joy. If they are on the forehead, the person will be very attractive and have numerous love affairs. If they occur on the chin, it is believed that the person will be very successful in life. These are some of the meanings derived from strawberry birthmarks depending on where they are found. There is no proof for this and it is all based on superstitions.
The time to call the doctor is if your baby’s poop consistently has undigested food in it. The doctor will check to make sure your baby’s intestines are absorbing food and nutrients properly.
On the other hand, there is a scientific meaning and explanation to all matters related to these birthmarks. Strawberry birthmarks are also known as strawberry hemangioma. They are basically some irregular growth of microscopic blood vessels under the skin which are not harmful. They mostly begin as a tiny red spot on the skin which then increases in size rapidly during the first weeks of a baby’s development.

In such cases, strawberry birthmark removal should be sought. Beta-blockers such as timolol and propanolol could be administered to the patient as treatment. Laser treatment as well can be used for strawberry birthmark removal. Where the doctor sees it fit, surgical procedures could also be adopted. These treatments all have their pros and cons. Their effectiveness and post-treatment effects are also different. It is therefore important to seek the doctor’s genuine opinion so that they can advise you accordingly on what treatment is best for your child.

There are many shades of normal when it comes to breastfed poop. One you might see is a greener hue, which could signify that you ate something different than you normally do. If your baby isn’t experiencing any other symptoms, there’s no need to worry.

One or two pebbly diapers isn’t a concern, but if your baby has three or more (or if you see blood), it’s best to call the doctor. Constipation often happens in babies who are being introduced to solid foods, or it can be a sign of milk or soy protein sensitivity or a lack of tolerance to something in breast milk or formula. Your doctor may recommend giving your baby water, pear juice, or prune juice to help move things along.
If your baby’s poop is hard and looks like little pebbles, she’s probably constipated. Your baby may be visibly uncomfortable when she’s pooping, and the poop may even be tinged with blood from irritating the anus on the way out.

In some cultures, the birthmarks are a sign of good luck. Others believe that massaging hemangiomas helps to reduce their swelling. This holds no truth. Instead of soothing the strawberry mark away, they may cause irritation and infection. Birthmarks are therefore best left to fade away on their own or taken to the doctor for treatment.

Strawberry birthmarks on the scalp tend to be harmless and painless. Even when they swell up with time and grow rapidly, they are not too bothersome since their appearance is concealed by presence of hair on the head. While the point at which they are may not grow hair when the mark exist, once it vanishes the scalp is left without a blemish and grows back normally.
For first time parents, anything on their children tends to evoke a lot of worry. While this is natural, some knowledge would help to ease their duties. Does your child have strawberry birthmarks? Do you want to learn what the causes are?
When your baby is 2 to 4 days old, his poop will become lighter in color – sort of an army green – and less sticky. This so-called transitional stool is a sign that he’s started digesting early breast milk or formula and that his intestinal tract is A-okay.
Once you start changing your baby’s input to solid foods – infant cereal, pureed bananas, and so on – you’ll almost instantly notice a change in her output, especially if she’s breastfed.
It’s also wise to call the doctor if your baby’s diarrhea contains visible blood or mucus.

But mucus in poop is also a telltale sign of an infection or allergy. If it’s accompanied by any other symptoms or shows up in your baby’s diaper for two days or more, call the doctor to rule out any problems.

If your baby is exclusively breastfed, her poop will be yellow or slightly green and have a mushy or creamy consistency. It may be runny enough to resemble diarrhea. Breastfed poop typically looks like Dijon mustard and cottage cheese mixed together and may be dotted with little seed-like flecks. Interestingly, its smell isn’t half bad.
Occasionally your baby’s poop will have identifiable chunks of food in it or be tinged with a surprising hue of the rainbow, like red, orange, or dark blue. Red could mean beets, orange suggests carrots, and dark blue implies blueberries (you may see pieces of blueberry skin in there, too).
If you see bright green and frothy poop in your baby’s diaper, almost like algae, she’s probably getting too much foremilk – the low-calorie milk that comes first in a feeding – and not enough hindmilk, the higher-fat, super-nutritious stuff. It could mean that you’re not feeding her long enough on each breast. To remedy this, start each feeding on the breast you ended on.
This though is not always the case when the strawberry birthmark is found on the face. These can appear on any part of the face like on the forehead, lips, or on eyebrows. People, especially growing children, tend to be conscious about their appearance. Any strawberry birthmarks on the face may cause a child to have low self-esteem especially if they are being teased by their age mates in school or at home.

By the end of the first year they will have stopped growing and began to shrink. By the time the baby gets to school going age, the mark will have disappeared. Strawberry birthmarks usually need no treatment as they shrink and disappear on their own. However, treatments can be applied to those birthmarks that hinder your baby’s ability to feed, see or breathe properly.
Expect to find a greenish-black, tarry, sticky poop that looks like motor oil in your newborn’s diaper. Since meconium is made of amniotic fluid, mucus, skin cells, and other stuff ingested in utero, it doesn’t really smell – so you may not realize it’s time for a diaper change.

Diarrhea can be a sign of an infection or allergy, and if it lasts for a while without being treated, can lead to dehydration. Call the doctor if your baby is 3 months old or younger, has more than two or three diarrhea-filled diapers, or continues having diarrhea for more than a day or two.
